Undoubtedly the human being was created for love, it is not a surprise for any of us to hear that the human being is in this world to love and be loved. The problem is that we forget it easily, and we get carried away by the rush of the world and little by little we lose love. In this race, we lose the importance of love which is at the bottom of the darkness, and we are focus on the problems, worries, and other things that become our center of interest.
He who loses the beauty of loving and receiving love loses the essentials of life. And this lack of love can lead us to impoverish mercy, leaving mercy reduced to a feeling of compassion. The parable of the Good Samaritan expresses what a true human being with the capacity to love is. The Samaritan is the one who has the ability to see the wounded during his journey, approaches and shows mercy and help in everything he can. If a Christian says he loves God, he must act with this mercy, which is a living manifestation of love.
Our daily life tells us loudly or often silently that without love and without mercy human life dries up and becomes selfish. It is difficult to practice mercy when you only live for yourself, therefore the church must resemble Jesus who lived for others. A real Christian is one who seeks to be like Jesus, and to look like Jesus he must be a good Samaritan, who knows how to react to the need and suffering of the human being with an attitude of love and mercy, a mercy that does not discriminate against anyone, who is willing to help those who suffer physical, moral, and spiritual wounds.
Let us be compassionate as our father is compassionate, let us be revolutionaries in a world that every day loses the focus of love. We generate changes with the mercy that the parable of the Good Samaritan shows us.
Am I ready to accept the challenge that Jesus gives me to be the Samaritan of the 21st century?
