The human person is a being, gifted with the spirit of God. Hence humans can think and search for the meaning of their being. There are times in our lives that some questions can come to mind, for example: where do I come from? Where am I going? What is waiting for me? What sense does everything make? and so forth.
All these questions could happen in moments of crisis, or even in the best moments of our lives. It could be present in the silence of the night, or at a party with friends. These questions confront the happy husband surrounded by his wife and children, and the homeless who walks alone through the streets, the woman who suffers in a hospital bed, and the one who tans in the sun on a famous beach.
The search for the meaning of life means the search for the will of God in our lives. In doing so, we must rise up to our Christian vocation to love God and to love our neighbor. Our neighbors involve the sick in the hospital, the immigrant who has no hope for a living, the homeless and those in need of our love. It is in serving these little ones that we serve God. Scripture tells us that “You can not serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6). A true servant of God must transcend from us to our brothers and sisters.
It is the only way we can attain true joy here on earth, and the meaning of our lives. When the believer strives to follow Jesus day by day, and neglect his/her neighbors, such a Christian experiences emptiness and meaninglessness. More so, following Jesus also means being willing to suffer with Christ. We must be prepared to share in the sufferings of Christ who also exists in the poor, the voiceless and the oppressed of our world. Serving Christ means accepting the risk of the crucified Jesus. “Jesus is the way, the truth and the life”, (14:6) therefore friends he says to us "Follow me" (Matt. 4:19).
