The liturgy of the Word this weekend lets us look to our future, that Jesus is doing everything we have said about him. Jesus started his mission in Galilee, the place where the prophet Isaiah prophesized in the first reading “The people who walked in darkness have seen the great light.” (Is. 9: 2) Jesus is that great light appearing in the darkest places. That is the picture of the heavenly kingdom on the day of Salvation. At the last day we will be gathered together under the great light, the presence of God.
Christ is the light that shines on Israel. He is the light that radiates upon the people, and we have to ask God to fill us with the power of the Holy Spirit. Let us grow in the knowledge of His love and truth. We need the Holy Spirit aflame in our hearts, so that we may know and love God and his people more fervently, and strive to do God’s will in all things. Let us be open to the Lord so that we can encounter Him.
My dear sisters and brothers in Christ, what do we hear and learn from the readings this weekend? We are called to pray and to reflect on the word of God in our lives. Our parish has a Bible study group on Thursday mornings 8am until 10 am in the Church Meeting Room. You are invited to join us!!! As Jesus’ disciples, we follow the tradition from the apostles, and we live out that tradition to be living witnesses. The liturgy of the word on the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time is our challenge for those who want to become Jesus’ disciples. Being a disciple means humble submission to the will of God, “Jesus did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
